This is a vintage custom tailored mens suit made in a blue and white checked lightweight wool or wool blend fabric - difficult to know the fabric for sure as it is custom tailored with no content label.  The jacket has wide, notched, lapels and a single button front.  The shoulders of the jacket are padded.  The sleeves have two buttons at the cuff.  There is a flapped pocket built into either side, and no chest pocket.  The jacket has no back vent and is half lined in purple acetate.  It has two interior pockets plus a deep narrow pocket for storing a comb - I’ve never seen this before.  The pants have a flat front (no pleats) and a wide flared leg at the bottom.   

Age: the tailor’s label dates it to April 1973

Sizing: No size is indicated and although this should fit a small to medium size, probably a size 38, please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric and the cut of the garment into consideration):

Jacket:

Shoulders: 18” across shoulder seam-to-seam 

Sleeves: 25 1/2” from shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 17 1/2” long

Chest: 42” around, taken under the arms

Waist: 36”

Overall length: 32"

Pants:

Waist:  32”, but there is room to let them out at the waist, if needed

Length:  42” measured flat

Leg Inseam:  31 1/2”

Condition:  This suit is in very good condition with two issues - the purple lining is discoloured (see photo) and the non-slip rubberized band on the interior of the pants waist is dried out and chipping, so you’d probably want to remove it.  Otherwise, the suit is very clean with no staining or other wear or tear.   

This is a wonderful suit from the early 1970s…..striking checked pattern, sure to be noticed!
